“Become the change you seek in the world.” – Mahatma Ghandi
A BALANCED APPROACH
Good health, regardless of age, gender or socio-economic situation, is achieved by finding balance in our lives – physiologically, emotionally and spiritually. However, obtaining this harmony is not always easy, particularly for those with medical conditions or other circumstances which provide unwanted obstacles along the path to true health and happiness.
Without a doubt, conventional western medicine is the best in the world for addressing things like trauma and acute emergencies. But they don’t typically focus on finding the cause of illness or treating the whole human being which often leads to misdiagnosis, recurring symptoms or additional health problems. Being healthy requires due diligence in all aspects of our lives – from the food we eat and exercise we get, to the way we interact with people and manage our daily routines.
INTEGRATIVE ALTERNATIVES
Integrative or Complementary Medicine (CAM) is a broad domain of resources encompassing health systems, methods and related theories and beliefs, which can either replace or supplement conventional health care practices. These treatments can include diet, vitamin and mineral supplementation, herbal therapy, various physical therapies, and exercise.
Science has proven that utilizing complementary and alternative therapies can be effective for many different illnesses and diseases. Often these treatments can be combined with modern, physician guided therapies, resulting in a more integrated approach to health and wellness.
EVERYONE IS UNIQUE
True health care recognizes that we are all individuals, complete with our own set of genes, histories and chemistry, which define who we are in every way. No medical treatment or procedure will affect two people the same nor will it result in the same outcomes. With this in mind, integrative medicine strives to identify these individual anomalies in order to prescribe a more accurate and customized health care program. By better understanding a patient’s unique physiology, medical history and lifestyle, we can develop integrated solutions that don’t just treat the symptom… they help heal the individual as a whole.
